This is truly a LIST, even though ranking is available, it's not important to the reason for the list - to enable readers to find new and interesting books and series in this genre. The key term here is ‘melodramatic’, if it is only on a planet, is grim, or is ‘serious’ science fiction, it doesn’t belong on this list.
